SMD has been awarded a £6.25m contract to construct and fit out a new self-storage facility for Cinch in Maidstone, Kent.
Located in Sittingbourne Road, the building will provide 7,097m² of space. The project also includes landscaping with spaces for 16 vehicles, access areas and associated works.
The facility has been designed by GDM Architects with the aim of achieving a ‘Very Good’ BREEAM rating. BREEAM is used to measure the sustainability performance of a building from construction phase and throughout the lifetime of a building.
In line with Cinch’s commitment to reducing its environmental impacts, all refrigerants contained in the building will be ozone friendly and sustainable materials will be used where possible.
The building will be visually appealing with ornate cladding details and external landscaping works will enhance the appearance of the whole site.
Construction is anticipated to start in Autumn 2026, and the site team will ensure that disruption to the neighbours will be kept to the absolute minimum.
Cinch Self Storage is meeting a growing demand for storage space across the UK due to hybrid working, increased housing costs, people living in smaller homes and smaller businesses having e-commerce needs.
The employers agent and contract administrator is Peter Lawrence Stallworthy.
The project has been awarded following the success of Cinch’s storage facility, also constructed by SMD in Ashford, Surrey.
