A groundbreaking ceremony took place, earmarking the new project underway at Manor High School in Oadby, Leicestershire, with the headteacher declaring it “an absolute game changer” for the school and wider community.

The new 2-storey sports hall facility, with additional classrooms and wider public car park is officially under construction (23rd July) ahead of being opened in April 2025 as part of OAK Multi Academy’s proposal to expand the school’s overall capacity from 900 to 1050 places in the 2025-26 school year.

The project represents a significant step forward in enhancing educational facilities at Manor High School, “allowing children to fulfil their sporting and academic potential” Head teacher Simon Greiff states in his opening speech at the event. He added: “this is a really exciting moment for us, and to mark it in this way is really important as we look forward to seeing the project develop”.

The groundbreaking celebrations were attended by guests from architects and project managers at S2e, staff at Oak Multi Academy & Manor High School, architects TMV and contractors from SMD.

SMD gifted the school a personalised shovel highlighting the project and date to commend the occasion, which will be proudly displayed in the new building once completed.

We heard from Roy Pett, Director of S2e who spoke about the timeline and hurdles already overcome to see the construction reach this point, as the project was originally initiated before the Covid-19 pandemic occurred and gave thanks to the local authority for their support in the school’s expansion.

Director, Moomith Ullah said:

“It’s a real privilege to be involved in this project and the team at Oak Multi Academy Trust, S2E and our partners at TMV. We understand to get a project to this stage, you can face a lot of hardship, so credit to everyone involved to reach this point. Now is the time to pass the baton onto us at SMD, so we can get building. Right from concept and feasibility stages through to construction and handover. We are excited to see the project develop until completion to provide much needed facilities for staff and students at Manor School.”

Manor High School, Simon Greiff said:

“We look forward to seeing the project develop from where it is today to completion. This marks the beginning of the next chapter for Manor High. We are thankful to s2e to getting us to this point, and also the local authority who have supported us along the way.

Once completed this will be a place where our students will have the opportunity to fulfil not only their sporting potential through the sports facilities provided but also their academic potential through the brand-new classrooms it will provide. Our students and community deserve the best and this facility will provide the best for them for many years to come.”

Roy Pett, S2e said:

“It’s fantastic to see this project reach construction stage, a big thanks to all the team members for their contributions and in particular the support from Leicestershire County Council Pupil Planning Team.”
