SMD Project Shortlisted for Sustainable Construction at London Construction Awards 2025
Last year, Oakfield Gardens Crematorium proudly marked a milestone, being named a finalist at the National Building and Construction Awards in the ‘Project of the Year £10m-£25m’ category – a recognition of the project’s thoughtful design, environmental sensitivity, and community focus. This year, the story continues, as the project has now been shortlisted with a new nomination, ‘Excellence in Sustainability – Project’ at the London Construction Awards 2025.
From the very beginning, Oakfield Gardens Crematorium was envisioned as more than just a building. It was designed as a landscape-led, environmentally sensitive space, offering a calm and respectful environment for the community. Every aspect of the project – from innovative design to construction delivery – reflects SMD’s ethos of building responsibly and sustainably.
Our collaboration with Peter Dann Consulting Engineers and an exceptional design team helped bring this vision to life. On site, the project team ensured that sustainability was embedded at every stage, demonstrating care, precision, and dedication. The result is a crematorium that balances functionality with a deep respect for the surrounding environment.
Director Moomith Ullah commented:
“To be recognised at the London Construction Awards is a real honour. It highlights the incredible effort of our team and reinforces the importance of embedding sustainability into every project we deliver.”
This year’s nominations are a testament not only to the project’s design and delivery but also to the ongoing commitment of everyone involved – from the SMD site team to our design partners and client, Central Bedfordshire Council. It shows what can be achieved when expertise, collaboration, and sustainability come together.
As we await the results in September, we take a moment to celebrate the team and the project’s journey so far. Oakfield Gardens Crematorium stands as a symbol of sustainable construction, a space designed with purpose, care, and long-term value for the community it serves.
We’re proud to continue sharing the project’s story and look forward to celebrating its continued success in the construction industry.
