Project overview

SMD will make improvements and alterations to make the buildings more accessible and aid community engagement. Upgrades will be made to the building fabric at Sycamore House including a complete replacement of the mechanical and electrical scheme, construction of a new link extension between Sycamore House and the existing Hall and external works including soft landscaping and improvements to the perimeter fencing.

The SMD team will bring its experience of working in heritage settings and work alongside Stenton OBHI Architects, quantity surveyor Currie & Brown, structural and civil engineer Stuart Thomas Associates, with mechanical and electrical services consultant, ESP Limited.

Sycamore House is a Grade II listed building dating back to the mid-18th century and was originally part of Sycamore Dairy Farm. It was operated by local families at the heart of agricultural life in the area.

As Milton Keynes expanded in the mid-20th century, the use of the farmhouse also evolved, housing different organisations and was even used as a site office during construction of the nearby London overspill Lakes Estate.

In the late 1970s, a Victorian barn (also part of the farm) was incorporated into the newly built Sycamore Social Club later renamed as Sycamore Hall.
