Frequently asked questions
When will the construction work take place?
Phase 1 of the project is scheduled to start towards the end of June including our site set up works and we hope to complete the phase during the summer holiday period. We will provide updates throughout the project and notify the school and local community of any significant changes.
It is hoped that we will start phase 2 shortly afterwards and it is anticipated the works will complete around Spring 2027.
Will the school remain open during the works?
Yes. The school will continue to operate as normal, but we’ve carefully planned most of our phase one works to take place during the school holidays to minimise disruption.
How will you ensure the safety of pupils, staff and visitors?
Safety is our highest priority. The construction area will be securely fenced off, access routes will be clearly marked, and all contractors will undergo site inductions and follow strict safeguarding procedures including Enhanced DBS (EDBS) checks, throughout the project duration.
Are all contractors DBS checked?
Where required by the school’s safeguarding policy, contractors working in areas accessible to children will hold appropriate EDBS checks and comply with all safeguarding requirements.
How will noise be managed?
Some construction activities may generate noise. Wherever possible, noisy works will be scheduled outside teaching hours or during school holidays to minimise disruption.
Will there be any impact on school access?
There will be changes to pedestrian and vehicle routes. Any changes will be clearly signposted and communicated to parents, staff and visitors in advance. Details of this will be shared at the appropriate time.
How will deliveries be managed?
Deliveries will be scheduled to avoid peak drop-off and pick-up times wherever possible. Traffic management measures will be implemented to ensure safety. Construction vehicle movements will be between 9.30am and 2.30pm Monday to Friday, and 9.30-1.00pm on Saturday, should we need to work.
Will there be additional traffic around the school?
Construction vehicles will occasionally access the site. We have a traffic management plan in place to minimise congestion and maintain safe access for everyone.
How will dust and debris be controlled?
We will use a range of measures including dust suppression, site hoarding, regular cleaning and controlled waste management to keep the site clean and safe.
What are the site’s working hours?
Our standard working hours are typically 7.30am–5:00pm Monday to Friday. Any work outside these hours will be agreed with the school and relevant authorities.
How will you communicate project updates?
Regular updates will be provided through the school’s communication channels and at this web page https://www.smd-ltd.com/news/brocks-hill-primary-school/. Key milestones and upcoming activities will be shared throughout the project.
What environmental measures are being taken?
We are committed to sustainable construction practices, including recycling materials where possible, reducing waste and minimising environmental impact. We are also using a Modern Method of Construction (MMC) solution for the project to promote and maintain our Net Zero Carbon targets.
Can parents or members of the public visit the construction site?
For safety reasons, access to the construction site is restricted to authorised personnel only unless a supervised visit has been arranged.
Will emergency access be maintained?
Yes. Emergency access routes for the school and emergency services will remain available throughout the project.

The completed works will provide improved facilities for pupils and staff, helping to create more school places and a better learning environment for years to come.
